Trends come and go but a classic red lip is forever. Red lipstick has been a timeless staple in every woman’s makeup collection for decades.
Whether matte or glossy, deep or bright, a bolt of red lipstick can update your look instantly and does wonders for your confidence.
Every makeup lover needs (at least) one red lipstick in their arsenal so I have put together a list of some of my favourites.
1. MAC Ruby Woo
This one goes without saying. Ruby Woo is a classic, bold cherry red with a hint of blue that demands attention. Arguably one of the most famous red lipstick shades, the semi-matte formula was even made into a spin-off shade just for Rihanna called Riri Woo.
2. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, Cruella
I love the convenience of having this in a pencil while having the creamy, smooth application of a lipstick. The NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella is a beautiful bold, scarlet red and lives up to its name with its beautiful soft velvet finish. No liner needed.
3. Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Lipstick, Ma’Damn
Of course Rihanna’s latest collection had to be part of the lineup and with good reason. I love this lipstick because of its light-as-air texture that glides on creamy and stays put—no bleeding or feathering after applying— super important for a red lip. Ma’Damn is a medium-dark red with a velvety-soft matte finish.
4. Motives Cosmetics, Sorry Not Sorry
Another blue-based red I constantly reach for and keep on me at all time. I love the Motives Maven Mattes in Sorry not Sorry for the beautiful shade, colour payoff, creamy formula and longevity. It is a liquid lipstick that dries to a beautiful matte finish and the wand/brush makes for smooth, precise application.
5. Urban Decay Vice Lipstick, Temper
This shade is warm and rich, which will complement those with warm or neutral skin tones very well. The Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Temper would be considered an orange-red. You’ll find that while it’s bold, its a bit tamer than your other reds. This lipstick is a comfort matte finish, which means it’s long-lasting without being drying.
