Product Review: Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

I am typically a double cleanser. My evening skin care routine usually consists of removing my makeup with cleansing oil followed by a face wash. The theory is that a cleansing oil removes the initial layer of dirt and dead skin cells from your skin, pulling those stubborn gross bits out of your pores, allowing the face wash you normally use to really get in there and do its job more effectively. Rather than aggressively rubbing and pulling at the skin to remove makeup in one step, this is a far gentler approach.

I came across the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm and decided to give it a try on a whim to as an oil-based “pre-cleanse” to my routine.

What is it:

“Lightweight makeup remover quickly dissolves tenacious eye and face makeups, sunscreens. Transforms from a solid balm into a silky oil upon application. Cleans thoroughly, rinses off completely. Non-greasy. Non-drying. Ophthamologist tested. For all skin types.”

The product comes as a solid balm but transforms into a fluid (oil) when applied. When mixed with water, the oil turns white. The product does an AMAZING job of leaving your skin feeling thoroughly cleansed. Although it is oil-based you will not feel a greasy layer once you have rinsed off. After every use my skin feels moist to the touch which I love. My oily friends need not fear, this product will work for you as well!

A little goes a long way so at $38.00 (Canadian), this product is definitely worth the spend.

The balm is also scent-free which is great for those with sensitivities and super gentle on the skin.

What else you need to know:
This product is allergy and ophthalmologist tested, non-acnegenic, appropriate for contact lens wearers, and 100 percent fragrance-free.

Final thoughts:

I would definitely repurchase as the product lives up to its claims and does a superior job of removing my makeup – even waterproof products as well.

For the price, you get a great bang for your buck.

The only thing I would change about the product is that I wish it came with a small spatula as opposed to having you use your fingers. This would allow you to control the amount of product you use and for hygienic purposes avoid any contamination

Have you tried the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. What were your thoughts?

  1. Oh girl! I am actually really glad I came across your post. I have been trying to find a cleansing oil for the longest. I have sensitive skin so I am pretty particular about what I use on it but after reading your review I think I may give this one a try out especially since it is hypoallergenic. Great review!

  2. I’ve wanted to try this line since Jackie Aina talked about them on her Snapchat! And after reading this I may have to make the purchase soon! Great review. Thank you for sharing!
