Being a beauty enthusiast and blogger, I have accumulated quite the makeup collection over the years.
Recently, I went on a five-day Caribbean trip and was faced the difficult task of figuring out what I actually needed to bring from my collection. Once I started packing, I started to feel overwhelmed with amount of products that I had, knowing I couldn’t possibly pack it ALL – primers, foundations, setting powders, bronzers, blushes, highlighters, eye shadows, eyeliners, brow products, lip liners, lipsticks, lip liners, lip stains, lashes, mascara, setting spray – PHEW! It’s A LOT.
Sorting what I would actually need and would wear for a variety of occasions, while not compromising on the amount of looks I would be able to create was a challenge. A girl’s gotta have options! I took a small makeup bag and stuffed it the “essentials” plus a few extra glow products – highlighters and blushes. Again – options ☺ Once I arrived to my hotel in paradise and laid everything out, I realized I still could have minimized a bit more.
Here are some tips to keep in mind that will get you through a beach vacation while still allowing you to look your best:
Palettes will be your best friend
A great neutral eyeshadow palette is a great way to get multiple looks for day and night. Many eye shadow palettes often have a shade or two that can double as a highlight for the face. Score!
Another tip is to depot some of your favourite existing shadows and/or blushes and place them in a z-palette to maximize space.
Multi use products are the way to go
Instead of cramming multiple items in your makeup bag, find one product that will do the job of five. Enter BB Creams which are essentially lighter foundations with a few added skin care benefits thrown in. Most BB Creams act as skin perfecters, primers, moisturizers, foundations and sunscreens, making them the ultimate multitasking makeup product.
Here are the items that will get you through your beach vacay without having to overstuff your makeup bag:
Concealer, tinted moisturizer, highlighter:
When on vacation, less is more. Your skin tends to have that healthy sunkissed glow so let it show by leaving heavy foundations and cover-ups at home. Simply take a good concealer to minimize the appearance of any dark circles or spots and a tinted moisturizer (with built in SPF) to even out your complexion if desired. Finally, include your favourite highlighter (just one!) to enhance your holiday glow on your cheekbones, brow bones and temples.
Take a waterproof mascara with you to keep your lashes together in and out of the water. Even if you have no plans to be in water, do not underestimate the power of humidity and sweat to cause you to smudge.
Brows are super important to frame the face. Again, a waterproof option is the way to go.
I tend to go overboard with lipsticks when I go away simply because I have so many. Generally, you should keep a red lippy with you. It’s one of the easiest and most effective ways to glam up your look. Also pack a nude that will allow you to achieve different looks.
