A company known as The Abnormal Beauty Company is making waves in the beauty in a big way. Deciem, a company that houses a number of innovative skin, body and hair care products.
What makes the company especially unique is the principle that quality should not be defined by price points therefore many of the brand’s skincare and makeup offerings are extremely affordable.
For the past few weeks, I have been steadily using the The Ordinary Lactic Acid treatment and thee High-Adherence Silicone Primer.
First, we’ll start with the Lactic Acid treatment.
Lactic acid is a gentle exfoliator and is simple and effective, used to treat hyperpigmentation, congested skin and fine lines.
There are two levels to choose from relating to the concentration and strength of the treatment – Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% and Lactic 10% + HA 2%. I got the 5%, the mildest acid exfoliator. I was nervous to try it but my skin seemed to tolerate it well. I find there is a tingle or occasionally a slight sting but nothing that was lasting or concerning. The low percentage of lactic acid makes it a good starting point for chemical exfoliant newbies.
To use, simply apply a few drops to the skin after cleansing before any oils and creams. I like to give it a minute or two to sit on the skin before applying the rest of my skin care routine.
I will say that the smell is a little strange but it is nothing that is overly unpleasant.
I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to brighten and smoothe the skin – who isn’t? I’ve noticed a slight difference int the texture and brightness of my skin after using for a few weeks. At a price point of $6.50 (CAD) for 30mL, you can’t go wrong.
Second, the High-Adherence Silicone Primer
uses advanced adaptive silicones to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer. The formula can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator that reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections.
A quick word on primers in general. Primers are the bridge between skincare and makeup. There are tons of different types of primers available in the market, each catering to a different need – mattifying, pore filling, blurring, luminizing, etc. While all primers will not be able to do all things, they all need to provide a smooth canvas for the application of makeup and extending its wear.
Now about The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer. The texture of the product is creamy yet lightweight, unlike other silicone primers that I have tried that are typically mousse-like in texture. It comes out like a creamy moisturizer and blends easily into the skin. It didn’t leave my skin feeling too greasy or too matte and did make it feel smoother. It does leave a slightly tacky feeling to the skin which I didn’t mind. I found my foundation lasted longer and applied better. The formula is oil and alcohol free so my oily friends need not worry. I found that I was able to last for 8 plus hours with less breakthrough oil than I would typically experience.
At $4.90 (CAD) I would recommend giving it a try. The product lived up tho its claims and did a good job of smoothing, blurring and locking my foundation in place.
Overall, I was really impressed with the brand by what I have tried so far. I hope to dive a bit deeper into their product offering and share my thoughts so stay tuned! 😉
