5 Ways to Invest in Yourself This Year

The new year always brings in with it new goals or new ideas whether you buy into the “New Year, New Me” mentality or not. When I was making goals for myself this year, I quickly realized that in order for me to achieve them I have to make investments in myself. When you invest in yourself, you’re giving worth to yourself and your goals.

Here are five ways to invest in yourself this year:

I always enjoy learning something new or having something on the go. Although I may have completed my formal education (university and college), I continue to push through and find ways to continue learning. I recently completed a graphic design course that will allow me to continue to provide value and build on my skillset for my brand.

As a blogger, there’s always something new to learn and strategies to keep on top of. I’m constantly searching for new courses and books and investing in ones that will help my blog and business grow. The second you stop learning is the second you stop growing. Whether it be a new language, new marketing strategies, coding, design – never stop learning!

You should continuously be investing time into creativity. This is by no means a one size fits all approach. This will mean something different to everyone from interior design, photography, writing or painting. Creativity allows us to have fun, be inspired and express ourselves in new ways. If your job is in a creative field, try another creative outlet outside of work.

I have a friend who has invested in cake decorating classes and another in art classes, The sky is the limit!

Physical activity

Being physically active is an important part of investing in yourself. Whether it’s a gym membership, kickboxing, yoga or spin, find something you love. With all the things you may have on the go, it can be hard to find the time but you should MAKE the time. Stay active. Find someone to hold you accountable or with a friend. You cannot be the best you you can be by being exhausted and out of shape.

Nurture your mind by reading, writing and engaging in discussions with others who may hold a different point of view. Meditation, journaling and therapy are all also ways to feed your mind. Staying sharp mentally will help with mood, memory and focus and should be one of the top things you invest in for yourself.

Books, podcasts, and apps are all great tools you use to help get your mind right.

I’ve been noticing now more than ever, how much the food I eat affects me – both in terms of how I look and feel. Many foods (particularly the ones we grab on the go) are high in sugar, salt and fat cause bloating and make us feel tired and sluggish. Try making your own meals (meal prep), carrying around healthy snacks like fruits, vegetables and nuts to help curb your hunger in between meals while you’re on the go. Investing in the food you eat, helps you feel better all around and in turn, helps boost your productivity, energy and mood.

Investing in yourself is one of the best ways to achieve your goals and dreams. Are there any other ways you’re planning to invest in yourself this year? Let’s chat below!

  1. This is SO good. I’m definitely trying to invest more in my creative self. I decided to move to a self-hosted blog to show myself how much I really care about my blogging, even if I don’t monetize. I’m also trying to finally buy a camera so I can get into some leisure photography. Seriously, when you invest in the things that make you happy it’s really something.
